Better Late Than Never

Once again I am posting well after the fact, but this letter is important for me to share. I love you Grandma.

                      A Letter to My Grandmother

Dear Grandma,

As I grow older, it comes to my attention that my generation is not good at sending thank you cards. I am writing you this letter because I want you to know that this flaw belonging to your grandchildren, does not translate into ingratitude. We are beyond grateful for your many gifts and lessons.  Thank you for all of your amazing quilts.  They keep me warm at night and constantly remind me of your love.  Thank you for sharing your talents with me. My love of sewing can truly be accredited to you.  Thank you for teaching me the worth of a human soul. Thank you for showing me unconditional love without judgment. Thank you for teaching me to give without expecting anything in return.  Thank you for teaching me that disability is not inferiority.  Thank you for teaching me that family above all else is the key to happiness in this world. Thank you for teaching me that helping others helps me in the process. Thank you for being my Grandmother.  I love you and am forever grateful to have you in my life.

  1. Dear Megan,
Thank you for writing this lovely letter. As Grandma doesn't use the internet much, I will make sure she sees it when I visit her. You are such a wonderful daughter and granddaughter. What a joy you are. Love, MOM

  3. Her letter to her Grandma appears to be her last blog here. She had her ups and downs after that. One of the hardest things was a never-ending cold that affected her throat and voice, to the point it was hard to talk a lot of the time. She also dealt with a lot of pain.
She continued to design fashions for various charity shows, went hiking and camping with her family as much as she could, and showed the incredible courage that amazed us all. She passed away on April 19, 2013, leaving our hearts aching that we would no longer have her wonderful presence in our lives. We all feel such gratitude for this wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, and friend! Her memorial service was at Red Butte Gardens among the gorgeous flowers and trees on April 28, 2013. Her husband gave a wonderful picture review of her and their life together. And after some lovely songs, he opened the mike to anyone who wanted to say something. It was an incredible evening listening to how many lives she had affected and even changed. She never missed a chance to be kind to those around her.
Megan, we love you so much and miss you!!! Thank you for the incredible life you lived in 31 short years!
God bless all those out there facing the kinds of difficult things that Megan had to deal with! She wanted you to know that you can do it. Never give up - live your life to the fullest while you can. Be gentle with yourselves and with each other.
And as her Mother, I would like to add one of my favorite sayings:

"To believe in God is to know that all the rules are fair, and that there will be wonderful surprises."

Obviously, it doesn't feel quite fair to see my sweet daughter die so young, leaving her wonderful husband and little girl to go on without her. But I believe there will come a day when we understand that the Lord truly is in charge, and all our heartaches will be healed and we will understand his purposes in allowing these things. Best of all, I believe we will see each other again, and be together with our sweet Megan!
My wish for your well being and happiness,

    Margie Pilling, Megan's MOM
